Amazon recently announced that the company is giving away an added benefit to its Amazon Prime subscribers in the US. They can now claim their one-year free GrubHub Plus subscription, regularly priced at $9.99 a month.
GrubHub Plus is a food delivery service offering free delivery for orders over $12.00. Amazon further stated that the said free food delivery service is affiliated with thousands of restaurants in over 4,000 cities in the US.
However, once the one-year free subscription expires, GrubHub will start charging the monthly fee so the subscribers can continue accessing their service, and cancellation of the Amazon Prime membership automatically cancels GrubHub’s.
According to GrubHub’s CEO, Adam DeWitt, this new benefit is Amazon’s way of redefining convenience that will help boost more businesses to their partner restaurants and drivers, as many new customers will discover the benefits of GrubHub Plus.
It’s also Amazon’s way of compensating for shutting down Amazon Restaurants a few years ago. The said segment was the company’s strategy to compete with the takeout delivery market and was operational between 2015 to 2019.
Since it stopped due to very stiff competition with Uber Eats and DoorDash, the leader in the eCommerce industry has made takeout groceries its primary focus while simultaneously partnering with other food delivery companies like Deliveroo Plus in the UK.
In addition to this added benefit, Amazon is creating a teaser for its upcoming Lord of the Rings TV show, “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which will be available exclusively to Amazon Prime members for 48 hours.
