Weebly website builder is one of the top website builders on the market today. It was initially released in 2006 and it’s based in San Francisco, California. As Weebly claims, with more than 20 million sites and tons of Weebly reviews, it is within the top five used website builders. To evaluate all of this and if Weebly is good for small business owners who want to take their businesses online, we naturally decided that we needed to perform a thorough review of Weebly just like we have with other major website builders. We assessed Weebly in 12 different areas: usability, pricing, design, responsiveness, loading speed, SEO, integration, features, support, pros and cons and final verdict. We have found that when attempting to retrieve the most comprehensive review a website builder’s capacity, it is vital that we look at all the integral parts of the website building system. Furthermore, when judging a website builder it is important that you can break things down into different factors, as some factors may not hold much bearing for some while simultaneously holding a considerable amount of bearing for others.
Ins and Outs Of Weebly Website Builder
During my experience using Weebly, I found that it was incredibly easy to use. It offered a very simple and standard drag and drop platform. It worked well and was straightforward. I would say that compared to many other website builders I have used, it is by far one of the easiest and most simple setups. When you begin building your website on Weebly, navigation through the steps is easy to work through and intuitive—making it a great choice for beginners.
Before discussing the costs of different packages that Weebly has, lets us first discuss Weebly free plan. As they market around, is Weebly free plan really free? Yes and no! Yes because you can have a website that can go live on the internet for free and no because you can’t have your custom domain and can’t use more than 500 MB of Storage Space. Except for drag and drop features, you can’t use any other features. Weebly’s pricing rates are pretty good. They range from $9 a month to $59 a month. The plan that I would recommend is the pro plan which costs $12 a month. This plan comes with an unlimited number of pages, no ads, up to an entire year with free domain, thorough reports about your site, site-search and no limits on storage and blog capability. You can sell up to 25 products with this plan with a 3% transaction fee. You can also opt for the business plan which is $25 a month. The business plan has no transaction fees and no product limit.

Weebly has over 70 templates to choose from which isn’t a ton but it’s also more than some other builders. The designs that Weebly offers are mostly basic. Weebly does offer edits with CSS/HTML which only developers can utilize. They also don’t offer nearly as many templates for mobile usage. I found Weebly to be a bit restricting regarding content placement which was somewhat limited. In short, Weebly’s designs are a bit limited but if you can use CSS/HTML, you will be less limited and will have more to work with.
This is the section, where most website builders tend to loose to custom coded websites. The obvious reason is website builders provide so many options for every user resulting in more code and data fetch from the database. Extra calls, will make website built on website builders load a bit slow. However, to some extent, Weebly loading speed can be optimized by leveraging browser caching, minifying JS, CSS and compressing images. asWeebly websites work websites for loading fast, loads okay website builders like Squarespace. It tends to be on the slower side at times which I noticed when giving it a try. They don’t offer any integrated speed optimization additions but they do have a CSS/HTML editor which can help with speed performance. I also found an area in the support center that offers a few techniques to help with your speed performance. I would maintain that if loading speed is a huge deal for you and your site needs, you are most likely better suited with a different builder.
Weebly for loading speed has mixed reviews from its users. Some feel the loading speeds are good and some feel the other way. The reason for that is no two sites built with the website builder are same. Some websites may be photo rich and load slow, while some other websites are very well optimized for speed. In our tests, compared to other website builders like Wix, Weebly performs better but loses to Squarespace. With websites being fetched from its own data centers, Weebly has an additional edge of customizing the web hosting for their website needs. They don’t offer any integrated speed optimization additions but they do have a CSS/HTML editor which can help with speed performance.
I discovered Weebly to have lots of good ways to optimize SEO. Weebly uses your page name in the URL which is very helpful. Also, if you’re using Weebly for a blog post you can customize the last part of your URL to be virtually anything you want which is great for optimizing your SEO. These are assets that aren’t offered by all website builders alike. Another helpful addition is that while using Weebly you can go to the “advanced settings” on all of your pages and actually set your SEO title and also your meta description. This is great because you can add in whatever keywords you would like the title or description of the page which can boost SEO quite a bit.
While I was using Weebly I found that it offered quite a few options in terms of integration. It offered full access and control over my website’s HTML/CSS coding which I appreciated. Other options that Weebly offer are Paypal, Etsy, shopify, Social Media, Stripe, Authorize.net, Quickbooks, Google App Suite and over 200 more! In short, I found the integration options to be well varied and good in number.
There are some notable features offered by Weebly that I want to mention. It has a pretty fantastic image editor that I loved. Images are so important on your website and I especially appreciate when I can edit the images to make them look how I want. Another feature that I loved was how the blog offered great options to help maximize SEO. Lastly, it offered the option to schedule any posts you want to make ahead of time for social media — a great tool for any blog.
You can get support using Weebly via phone call, live chat, email or their help center that has common questions and tutorials. Their phone line is open Monday through Friday from 6 AM until 6 PM Pacific Time and Saturday and Sunday from 8 AM until 5 PM. One thing that I will mention is how simple using Weebly is — so the support you will most likely need is minimal. There are multiple support options offered by Weebly in the event that you have a problem.
Just like with most other website builders, I think that Weebly would be a good choice for some and still be a bad choice for some others. If you’re looking for a super modern and advanced website I don’t think Weebly would be the best fit for you, as the designs are somewhat limiting and basic. However, if you are somewhat of a beginner and looking for something easy, straightforward and basic, I think Weebly would be a great fit for you.
